Four Charcoal Producers Association (CPAs) (Kyenire, Ngoce,Kaigi and Kianthenge) have adopted the sustainable charcoal production techniques whereby they are using the Kilns to burn charcoal and employing appropriate tree harvesting strategies for them to get the firewood. In addition they have adopted the use of the charcoal dust alongside with other raw materials like sand and cow dung to make briquette. As an adaptation measure to climate change the four groups have been trained on other natural management initiatives mainly tree nursery establishment and management and two of the groups have already started their tree nurseries with a target of each member planting at least 100 tree seedlings in the coming Oct-Nov rains. Additionally the four groups have also been trained on permaculture design with key focus on the on the wood lot and the food forest. An extra session was conducted with each group on proper record keeping at the group level.
Tree nurseries establishment is ongoing as the ground is already levelled and germination of seeds, potting of seedlings is ongoing. So far, 400 seedlings have been potted. During the month of july, 41 beneficiaries were engaged 13MHH AND 28FHH.
In Support of community groups and government departments to work together to identify and implement practical strategies for managing water resources in a more sustainable manner (water catchment protection etc.) Negotiations between the residence and those involved in sand harvesting have begun towards having a sand harvesting group that will do sand harvesting in sustainable way and include mitigation measures such as the construction of Gabions and check dams construction along the seasonal river

Good progress towards attaining the set milestones have been made as far as the project out puts are concerned and so in the next quarters efforts to achieve the project outcomes will be made.
The project beneficiaries usually have an obligation to contribute in all project activities either in cash or in kind for project ownership and sustainability.
